About Ted

Ted Crysler was born in Collingwood, the son of a farmer and a homemaker, and raised in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. With five siblings, family time was never dull. He attended Cameron Street Public School, Senior Public School, and Collingwood Collegiate Institute.

After graduating high school, he attended Carleton University in Ottawa and has an Honours B.A. in Political Science and History, and a Master of Arts in International Affairs. Ted then studied at the University of Toronto law school where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1993.

After law school, Ted spent a year working in Europe at the European Court of Human Rights and the North Atlantic Assembly before returning to article at McCarthy Tetrault in Toronto. He was called to the Bar in 1996 and has been practising technology and corporate/commercial law since then. Ted started his career in private practice at law firms in Toronto, and also spent 6 months at the Canadian Mission to the European Union in Brussels. In 2004, he joined the Legal Department at Rogers Communications, where he worked until 2018 as Managing Counsel with responsibility for technology, procurement, network, outsourcing, and patent matters. He currently has his own practice concentrating on technology and corporate/commercial law and working with existing businesses and entrepreneurs in the technology sector.

Ted has secured his Diploma in wine and spirit studies from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, and is an enthusiastic provider of wine education and winetasting events through his wine business, Bacchus Wine Academy Inc. He also completed his Culinary Arts Certificate at George Brown College.

Ted is the Chair of the Wasaga Beach Climate Action Advisory Committee, and a Board member for the Wasaga Beach Climate Action Team, which advances collaboration with the community and the town to act on climate issues. He is also a Board member of the Museum Board for Collingwood. Ted has been a member at First Presbyterian Church in Collingwood and St. Andrew’s Church in Toronto, has been Clerk of Session and the Chair of the Heart of the City Speakers’ Series, and sat on the Growth and Innovation Committee and the Board of the St. Andrew’s Heritage Trust. He volunteered at his son’s school as Fundraising Coordinator and Chair of the School Council. Ted coached novice and peewee house league lacrosse teams. He also is the President of a condominium corporation.

When he’s not working, Ted enjoys bicycling, cross country skiing (he has completed the Coureur des Bois bronze level at the Canadian Ski Marathon), skating, badminton, motorcycling, kayaking, travelling, and playing cello, fiddle and piano. He is a member of the Collingwood Curling Club and a season’s pass holder at Highlands Nordic.

Ted has a 16-year old son who inspires him to be a better dad every day.

Ted is passionate about improving the lives of Ontarians. A promoter of economic affordability, a strong proponent of public health care and education, an advocate for our ageing citizens, and a lifelong environmentalist, Ted will fight for progress in all of these areas as part of the Liberal team.
